I need help in identifying this tree that my family planted in memory of my late husband. My niece bought the tree and three perennials from a friend with nursery connections - but had no idea what they were.

We may need a bit more pictures - close of the leaves, a better picture of the arrangement of the leaves on the stems, and perhaps a picture of the whole bush. If I am correct in making out the picture on the left, the leaves are opposite - which would make a Katsura (Cercidiphyllum japonicum a likely candidate. If so, it will grow into a beautiful tree, with the most delicately colourful of foliage, especially in spring and in the fall.

Does the leaf have a nice sweet scent when you crush it?

    I'd agree with Cercidiphyllum japonicum.

Thanks for the welcome and unexpected reply! That was supposed to be my 'practice' post, I didn't know that it posted.
Here are a few additional pictures of the sparse mystery tree that I have already taken, as well as the perennials that I am not familiar with.
The leaves of the tree are definitely cordate, rather heart shaped and not at all serrated. When crushed, they smelled a bit like tea. They are indeed opposite.

My niece is evidently not a gardener. lol She didn't understand why we needed to know what kind of tree it was.

    Thank you, guys.
I had kept coming back to the Katsura, but it seemed the leaves usually had toothed edges.

Hello again! Yes, it is definitely a Katsura - and I am looking forward to watching it grow in the years to come.

Now, any help with the three perennials that came with it? I included some photos with one of my posts. Thanks!
