I don't know what else to do. I need to know what kind of plant this is. I had three of this in backyard before we redid. At the time they were dried 4 or 5 feet tall mini trees. In june they had some leaves that started to come out from the bottom of the plant. The landscaper didn't know what it was as it was a dry / looking dead plant. It seems like it wasn't dead after all because as we were getting our soil ready to plant some grass seeds, I found the plant growing. I put it in a pot and it is looking pretty good. All I hope is that I didn't get rid off something nice. I have looked all over the net and the only thing I found was a type of hibiscus that had similar leaves to this plant.

Please help me identify this plant. I will owe you one if you tell me what this is. Thanks for the help.

It looks kind of like a Manitoba Maple (Acer negundo) to me, or perhaps another species of Acer.

If it is a Manitoba Maple, it can behave like a noxious weed, but it also makes a lovely shade tree if you prune it, and turns an awesome gold in the fall. Just, make sure you contain it, or it can take over your yard.

Nope, not a maple... leaves aren't opposite.

Hmm. The way it was in the original landscape, when we bought the house, it looked like it was meant to be there so I am not sure if it could be a type of weed. I digged out the root and it looked like some tuberous bulb (very thick and about 8 - 10 inches long). Thanks for the feedback.

Ops. I just re read your post and you never said it was a weed but that it could behave like one. Sorry about the misunderstanding.

OMG Thank you so much. I can't believe I had three of these plants and killed it. Arghh. I wish the landscaper would have known about it. I love hibiscus plants. At least I will be able to have one plant....

Thanks for the help. I really appreciate it.
