Saw several of these growing in shade at Yellow Point on Vancouver Island this weekend. Doesn't appear to be Parsley Fern or Leathery Grape Fern. The whole plant is about 30 centimeters wide. Perhaps not a fern at all.
Thanks Ron, but I don't think so. The leaflets are fused at the base and the leaves have a curly appearance.
Have a look through the images from E-Flora BC and Burke Museum's Image Collection -- I'm seeing a lot of variability in the leaves, including some that are good matches.
Here's curly for you. http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl...n&tbm=isch&um=1&itbs=1&sa=X&ved=0CDAQrQMwAjgo
Thanks Ron and Daniel. Yes, the Senecio jacobaea looks like a match. Confusing because Jacob's Ladder (Senecio jacobaea) is an aster while Jacob's Ladder (Polemonium pulcherriumum) is a Phlox.
