Plant from Ontario ID?

while hiking near Bancroft, Ontario, I came across this plant on a sandy bank at the base of a rock outcrop. The flowers caught my eye, and I couldn't remember seeing such a plant ever before.

I'm not an expert identifying plants, and I've had no success with this one.
