We have a pink dogwood tree very old 35years plus ,it has started to lose its bark ,it is just falling off ,we live in White Rock B C any ideas how to stop this please.
I have seen their bark flake off at times, almost like it is unraveling. seems to be almost common on older trees. is there any other signs of problems?
Roughening of bark of Cornus florida as tree ages normal, bark sloughing off to reveal cankerous, darkened or soft areas beneath not.
I have a problem with pockets of moss "gardens" forming on the branches of my 30 plus year old Cornus n. but if sun is your issue , then a western exposed shade environment would prevent sun scald to the bark...at least mine have the requisite shade.
