Hi, We have, as shown in the attached picture, a plant with purple and green leaves and a whole lot of some kind of ground cover. Could anyone identify these please? They're in a sunny location in our Vancouver yard. I've placed secateurs in the picture for scale. Thanks! Laine
Looks like a purple-leafed honeysuckle to me. Lonicera japonica 'Purpurea' is the most common but its leaf tips are generally more pointed than those of your plant. It could also be a purple-leafed Hypericum, such as 'Albury Purple'. Either way, it can't be too far from flowering, which will make everything much clearer.
First glance looks like Hypericum androsaemum 'Albury Purple' (as already mentioned), but see where the uncertainty lies: in particular, the vine-like tips of some branches in the pic, and the apparent lack of spent flower heads and seed pods, which tend to linger on the hypericum. In fact, the more I look at it, the more I realize that I can't provide much more certainty or insight than the previous response...it's one of the two, though. So consider it seconded.
I'd say Hypericum. The 'Albury Purple' became prevalent in the trade and then developed a mildew problem.
