I bought this plant at a garden center outside of Portland OR and they have no clue what it is. They started it from some apparently mislabeled seeds. They say it likes full sun and that's about all they can tell me. I think it is going to bloom, look closely at the stem. Thanks to any one who can help. I will send the info to the garden center too.

That little bit on the stem may be an open flower.

It does sort of resemble spinach but the leaves are much thicker. I'm not ready to make a salad yet! I think I may try to get a better photo. Still trying to figure out the file size thing. Thanks. After googling NZ spinach, I don't think that's what I have. I think pierrot was close though. I will wait until the blooms open and send another photo.

here is the new photo of my mystery plant. It grew to about 12 ft outside this summer and I brought in inside before hard frost. As you can see it grew some very black berry/seeds and has almost hand size leaves. 4 or 5 long vines. I've named it Bela Lugosi ; -> Any idea what it is and how to care for it?

Might be Basella alba (syn. B. rubra), Malabar Spinach.
