I have a very large tree in my backyard with an enormous root system. Starting in May, it gets large fuzzy-looking yellow flowers on it that drop all over my driveway. The things stick horribly to my car after it rains and are very slick on the ground. At some point, it also gets brown seed pods on it, which it also drops on the ground. I've seen a few of these trees in St. Petersburg, but not very many. I'm guessing it's not native, but no one seems to know what it is. Any ideas?

    Hi Michele,
Just a guess but try looking up Cochlospermum. A friend of mine in Hawaii has one that makes a huge mess in his driveway. Good luck!

Too pretty to be my tree

Thanks for the tip. I checked out cochlospermum, but that's not it. That tree has very pretty flowers though! I'd have to describe my "blooms" as extra large dandelions, at least what falls onto the driveway - stem and all!
