Hi - I am hoping someone can help me to positively identify the tree in the picture I've attached. It was photographed on Mt. Hood in Oregon a few days ago. My guess was that it was a European Mountain Ash but someone else commented to me that it could be a sumac. I'm a little unsure of it being sumac because the berries don't look like any sumac's berries I've seen before (not hairy or on a spike like staghorn). Anyone know?

    I've seen this photo before:

    Nature Photographers.net

Geoff, please confirm you've Jim's permission to post it here - I suspect that it isn't a problem, but I don't want to step on any toes!

I also agree with Ron, and it is likely Sorbus sitchensis var. grayi which is a shrub to 4m.

Hi Daniel - Yes, I'm sorry, I let my desire to find out what it was get in the way of asking him. I think I just thought to myself "it's not a problem because I left his copyright in the photo" but that really isn't enough. I'll remove the attachment until I get his permission.

Thanks for the friendly reminder! (I wouldn't want illegal uses of my photos either!).
