In The Garden: need id: 3 trees -possibly walnut and a pear?

    Hi Everyone,

    Very new to botany and gardening and was hoping someone might be able to id the following.

    from the labeled pictures below:

    UnID1 - i have no idea. any help would be appreciated.


    unid2 - maybe a pear?

    unid3 - is this a black walnut?

    Thanks Saltcedar!... looks like a pretty good match.

    Does anyone have ideas about the other 2?


    The one I think is a black walnut has 15- 19 alternate pinnate leaflets if that helps at all.
    This is a big tree, 50'. We're planning a edible garden, apparently this tree (if it is a walnut)may be a big problem for food production underneath it?

    #2 is as you thought a pear
    #3 is a walnut; not sure if it is Black Walnut Juglans nigra, or Hinds Walnut Juglans hindsii. The latter is native in the Berkeley area, but the former is also often planted. Also possible it could be a hybrid between the two, as they hybridise readily.
