I have a vine growing in my backyard that I cannot identify. The leaves look like maple leaves and are very smooth and medium green in color and can be up to 6" wide. There are no flowers or fruit on the vine. The vines themselves are a green color and are smooth as well. The tedrils form at the base of each leaf. Can anyone help me figure this one out?

I originally thought it might be a grape vine, but the leaves are very smooth, no hairs or prickles at all, and there has never been any fruit on it and I have lived there for 6 years. I will take a picture of it when I get home tonight... very odd... looks like maple leaves, except the lobes are coarsely serrated.

a picture would help a lot. What about Boston ivy (Parthenocissus tricuspidata)? Its leaf looks like that and it has tendrils. It does have small berries though.

Hope this help. In the one photo, the other leaf pictured is of the birch tree this plant is climbing on.

nope, not Boston Ivy. Is it a type of muscadine grape. There are male and female plants. Maybe yours is a male since there is no fruit?

here is a link on muscadine grapes. maybe you can see if this looks like your plant

Isn't it odd for this plant to be growing wild in zone 5a?
