I just bought a home with what appears to be neglected flower gardens. I am having trouble figuring out what is a weed and what is a perenial...even with library books on both subjects. This plant I can't find in either book. It is growing in a very shady area, under large trees. Anyone know what it is?

Looks like Canabis to me. Don't let the Feds in.

I don't think it's Cannabis. Cannabis typically has serrate leaf margins.

I suspect we'll need to see a flower...
