Need help identifying exotic orange flower

    I saw this flower this summer in Croatia. I also saw it recently in New York. From the appearance and growth habit, I think it's a tropical bulb that can survive in milder winter climates, but have been unable to identify it so far. For size reference, the pink flower to the left is an oleander. Any leads would be appreciated.
