This showed up amongst my iris last year so I thought it might be some type of native plant but can't seem to find anything similar online so as you've come through for me in the past (thank you soooo much), thought I'd seek out your assistance again. It is a late starter in my Zone 5 (midwest) and began flowering mid-July. I have no idea if this is invansive or problematic so I moved it to a planting box so I can watch it's progress and keep under control if necessary. The flowers are simple but different with what I believe is just one petal on each side forming a sort of butterfly shape in a true blue color. If it would help I could try to take a close up of just the flower. The area where it was growing is quite sandy and didn't get watered much so it seems to be drought tolerant and obviously overwintered here fine. It seems to send out roots when the 'vines' have the opportunity and it chose to creep along the ground rather than up on a fence. Either a pretty hardy plant or just in the right environment for it. Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Looks like Commelina communis. Hope this helps. See.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commelina_communis
Wow--are you fast!!! Thanks!!! Now I need to decide since it's not native and may be invansive what to do--it's hard for anything to grow in my yard of mostly sand but I don't want to create problems for neighbors or nearby woods although I expect it probably already is in many places so may not be an issue. Thanks again.
