Hello wondering if anybody can tell me about a tree that grows in my yard I think a native to Washington.I have seen them in other places. It has thorns like a rose bush and gets these small white flowers in the spring. They drop all their leafs in the fall. Also growing around it is something that looks like a rose hip bush but the stickers on it are real soft and it gets these dark pink flowers on it. I would really appriciate any help anyone can give naming these two. Thank you, Care'n

Crataegus species possibly a; Black Hawthorn
Rosa gymnocarpa Baldhip rose has numerous almost soft thorns. They both like very similiar locations.

Do any of the wild rose up there grow big enough in time to look like a small tree form?

But don't they have pink blossoms anyway?

    I forget, now.

In Oregon, though, I've seen some very old rose in the wild, which could be mistaken for a small tree by some people.

Typically, they are just whip-like stems.
