I may have discovered the perfect plant, only I can not identify or reproduce it. It has no obvious means of reproduction. It will not root. It doesn't seem to make seeds thought it flowers nearly constantly, most profusely in the spring. I have never seen another like it and I can not find a picture of anything like it. It was purchased at HomeDepot about 4 years ago. It was the only one they had, sitting by itself in an aisle, unlabled, like it had been abandoned. We picked it up on a whim as we headed to the register. It was planted on the edge of a fish pond, in a hole cut through the heavy rubber liner that extends out from the pond. I told myself I would give it, and the other plants placed similarly, a chance to survive, by faithfully watering them everyday. -Which I did, for about a week.- The others have died, which is fine, because this plant has surrouned half the pond, dangels over the stone into the water but doesnt rot, or root, and creeps out onto the patio at an alarming rate. It makes a beautiful carpet of lush green fleshy leaves, interspected with feathery red small flowers. Weeds avoid growing beneath it, except at the edges. If you lift it, it will lift up something like a carpet would, though its just tangled tendrils creating the effect. The tendrils do not put down roots. No baby plants have popped up. The entire mass seems to come from the one spot where the original plant was placed in the whole through the rubber. I have no idea how it gets enough water to support its size. If I can find more of these plants, I will carpet my entire yard in them and sell the lawn mower. Anyone with any ideas, please let me know.
Thank you! I sure hope that I don't kill it now that I will know how to care for it. Thanks again. :)
