Mislabelled seed?

    Grew this from seed labelled as a Daphne, but I don't think its a Daphne. Seedlings are identical. Plants are several years old now. Yes, its an evergreen. Has not yet flowered even though plants are over a meter tall.

    You are correct...not Daphne.
    It looks like Osmanthus delavayi.

    By now I would expect flowers. Here it flowers at the end of March.

    Presume the shrub is now planted out in the garden.

    Oh, thank you! No, the plants are not in the garden but in large pots in the greenhouse. I didn't want to plant them out until I knew what they were as we have deer (plural).

    Shrubs over 1 m tall will not be happy in a pot...unless each is in a huge pot.
    That is probably why you haven't had any flowers yet.

    Yeah, they're in deep 14 inch pots in good soil. I look forward to their flowers. The plant itself looks very desirable.
