Hi everyone, new to this forum and also a beginner gardener - which is likely self-evident now! This plant and its sister has appeared in my garden and I dimly remember rescuing them from a sell-off table at the local garden centre last fall. They have made their re-appearance this spring and I have *no* idea what they are now! The only clue I have for my helpful readers is that this is a full sun location. Does anyone have any idea what it could be?

Hard to tell for sure at that stage but it may be one of the Lobelia x speciosa cultivars. Lobelia x speciosa is the result of cross breeding between several species, so they're quite a variable bunch. Their flowers tend to be in red shades and their leaves have varying degrees of purple-red tinting.

Wow! Thank you so much for that. I am going to watch for some flower spikes as the season wears on. So far only the low foliage, but we have had a very damp and grey spring and I don't blame it for waiting.
