Hi I found this plant growing wild while taking a stroll in my local neighbourhood. I found the plant very beautiful and tried to look it up on the internet. It looks like a morning glory variation but I can't tell if it's a Pearly Gates or a Moon Flower. Does anybody have any idea what it is. Does anyone also know if it is possible to root this plant, either in soil or water and how I go about doing this. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. Ravnak.
I'm guessing it's Morning Glory. The bud are too small and they are strongly spiraled on Moon Vine. Moon Vine is night blooming and fragrant. Flowers are around 5 inches (~13cm) across, seeds are large as a garbanzo bean. Moon vine can self layer. Morning glory is seed propagated only as far as I know. HTH Chris
Hi thanks for a quick answer, much appreciated. Do you know any site on the internet where I can try and compare the one I got to any varieties? Ravnak
Calystegia sepium (Hedge Bindweed) or Calystegia silvatica (Large Bindweed). Both are abundant weeds in northern Europe. C. sepium: http://ip30.eti.uva.nl/BIS/flora.php?selected=beschrijving&menuentry=soorten&id=3386 C. silvatica: http://ip30.eti.uva.nl/BIS/flora.php?selected=beschrijving&menuentry=soorten&id=3390 Ipomoea is not hardy in Norway.
Should add that the vast majority of people would regard this as something NOT to be planted! Once established, it is virtually impossible to get rid of, and is very damaging to other plants around it by strangling them.
