I'm hoping someone can put a name to this plant. A little background first... There is a place I know of where plants are dumped, most likely from a garden center or city contracted nursery, because the plants arrive in city trucks. I'd say 99% of these plants are annuals (taro, coleus, potato vine, cannas etc.) - although one time there were several 2M tall Tibouchina urvilleana. Hating to see these plants thrown away, I would rescue/salvage those that were healthy (often times they only needed water). During one of my "rescue missions" I came across a 1M tall plant growing in a compost pile that I did not recognize. I watched it for a week or so (it grew rather quickly in my opinion) and then decided to remove it before another load was dump. It had quite a thick stalk but I was able to pull it from the ground without much trouble. Surprisingly it had a relevantly small tuber-like root system. I planted it in my covered garden where it immediately wilted (not surprising), but after a few days it started to perk up. It has now been almost 5 months and the plant is showing no signs of stopping. At over 2M tall it has branched out and the smooth leaves are touching the sides of my "garden", but it does not seem to be affected by any of the colder weather we've had to date. I have considered the possibility that it is a type of cannabis but the leaves don't look right. Any thoughts? These photos were taken this morning when the temperature inside was reading 4C
