I bought a couple of ornamental onions at the Van Dusen plant sale about 4 years ago - 'Ivory Queen' was one but unfortunately I lost the tag for the other. I thought at first it was 'Summer Drummer' but as its been growing bigger over the past couple of years I started to think that maybe it was twisted leaf garlic - Allium obliquum - because the leaves have a twist to them. Finally about a month ago it started sending up a flower stalk but still hasn't open yet. This stalk now makes the plant about 2m tall, but its not a round bud so I'm stumped as to what I have. Any thoughts on what it might be would be appreciated while I wait for the bud to open. photo taken April 2022 close up of leaves taken June 2022 photo taken June 2022 close up of bud taken June 2022 Unknown allium (circled in upper right corner) compared to 'Ambassador' in the foreground - it should be noted that the unknown is located an additional 0.5m below 'Ambassador' on a lower terrace
Maybe safer to id after the flowers open. Allium Summer Drummer is very tall and has pointed buds as in your pic..it is a late flowering Allium. allium summer drummer - Google Search
