Hi ! I want to verify whether the tree in picture at http://www.flickr.com/photos/dinesh_valke/357180117/ belongs to Schefflera actinophylla (syn. Brassaia actinophylla) Thank you very much.
Looks like it. Outdoors the leaves are different than when grown under cover. Also produces large, antenna-like infl. causing it to be called octopus tree in Honolulu.
I think it may possibly be S. pueckleri (syn. Tupidanthus calyptratus), actually a native of India. It has a wider branching habit and more woody, crooked trunk than S. actinophylla and its flower structure is quite bizarre -- giving rise to common name Mallet Flower.
here you can see the difference between Tupidanthus and Shefflera *http://www.smgrowers.com/products/plants/plantdisplay.asp?plant_id=1572
Yes. The difference is elaborated. Thank you very much, 4moreaction. For the sake of ascertaining whether the tree is native Schefflera pueckleri (syn. Tupidanthus calyptratus), or "imported" S. actinophylla, I will wait until it shows blooms !! Thank you, 4moreaction, once again.
