Is this tree: Schefflera actinophylla?

    Looks like it. Outdoors the leaves are different than when grown under cover. Also produces large, antenna-like infl. causing it to be called octopus tree in Honolulu.

    I think it may possibly be S. pueckleri (syn. Tupidanthus calyptratus), actually a native of India. It has a wider branching habit and more woody, crooked trunk than S. actinophylla and its flower structure is quite bizarre -- giving rise to common name Mallet Flower.

    Could be. The other is not as limp and ruffled.

    The tree in my picture is "too" ornamental - and that is a poser.

    For the sake of ascertaining whether the tree is native Schefflera pueckleri (syn. Tupidanthus calyptratus), or "imported" S. actinophylla, I will wait until it shows blooms !!
