So, being completely ignorant of anything related to outdoor gardening, I've always just called this plant a "dogwood".

Can someone confirm for me if it is Cornus Alba, and if so, what cultivar?

    Thanks!

There is more than one redtwig dogwood with white variegated leaves on the market at this time. Maybe this is the familiar old C. alba 'Argenteo-marginata' ('Elegantissima'), maybe another introduction. If it flowers and produces fruits later it may be possible to deduce something useful from the characteristics of those, perhaps arriving at a species name at least.

Many thanks. I'll keep an eye out for the flowers and fruit.

    C. alba and C. sericea (C. stolonifera) also differ somewhat in the growth habit of the shrubs. You might get something out of looking at the Timber Press dogwoods book that came out awhile ago.
