This plant has needle like leaves in groups of 3-5 and looks like it has a small flower bud. Growing in a sandy dry area mostly. It is growing very low to the ground. I am posting a second plant question where the plant has 3 needle like leaves but is much larger and is growing in better soil. This ground is considered a disturbed site as we had soil trucked in and spread around last summer
If some of these leaves are actually whorled (not just axillary shoots) this might well be Spergula arvensis.
Thanks for replying. I have looked at the leaves and the picture and think this is something different.
