    Hi,
New here so bear with me.

Neighbors house was foreclosed on about a year ago, so it's sitting empty and the yard has run a bit wild.

My daughter noticed these growing with abundance over the last couple weeks, and I haven't been able to figure out what they are. I certainly don't want to let her pick/eat the fruit until I find out.

Would you all take a look and possibly give us a clue? We live in the Fort Lauderdale area, so it's definitely hot and humid here!

They look like Poma Rosas - Szygium jambos or similar. What do they smell like? The smell of roses confirms the ID - and they're edible if that is what they are.

Delicious. The carribean locals call them "Hog Plums" in the islands.

No, it doesn't smell like roses, it kind of smells like a tomato. :)

I stand by Syzygium, then, just not S. jambos. Definitely edible, and quite tasty.

It is a "hog plum" tree. I have one in my yard and it would be a great waste to not eat the fruit!

Had a brave friend that tried the fruit. Said it really didn't taste like anything...not sweet not bitter. I'm pretty convinced that this is indeed a hog plum tree. Is this something they would have planted or is growing wild?
