Please forgive me if this is the wrong forum to ask. I've checked in a book as well as online and couldn't identify this woodland berry from Sussex, New Brunswick. Does anyone recognize it? Is it edible? It was picked in the woods recently, the leaves were already dried out when picked. Grew in a rocky area on a bluff. Plant height: about 18 cm Berry diameter: 5 to 7 mm Thank you for reading!
Could be Maianthemum canadense, Canada Mayflower, or a relative. http://digitalnaturalhistory.com/flora_ruscaceae_index.htm#maianthemumtrifolium As practically everything from Liliaceae, it might be poisonous or cause "side effects" http://bolt.lakeheadu.ca/~borfor/herbs/herb21.htm
Thanks for the reply, Andrey. I think it looks closer to Maianthemum canadense than anything else that I've come across so far. I should add that the plants I found were about 18cm in height and the berries were 5 to 7 mm in diameter. The berries contain about 2 smaller, solid seeds inside.
