I recently was given a young tree and I was concerned that it might be some sort of Ash Tree. If it is a White Ash for example, I would have to remove it. However, I was told by someone that it is a prickly-Ash tree which is safe from the desease. Can someone respond.

    Thank you.

There isn't much to go on here, but it doesn't appear to be anything to do with ash. Ash, and prickly ash have oppositely compound leaves. These seem alternate, unless leaflets have fallen off, though it doesn't appear so. Also, the leaf shapes and textures aren't quite right, and there shouldn't be a bend in the rachis as seen here. Finally, there are some odd, translucent 'vines' coming out of the bud locations, which makes me think these are simple leaves, as I think compound leaves only get one bud at the very base, not at each leaflet's base, though I'm not 100% sure of this.

Can you provide more pictures? Can we see the tree itself? It's hard to tell if this is part of a compound leaf, an entire compound leaf, a small twig with simple leaves from a larger branch, or an entire young branch from the trunk of a small tree, at least for me. Maybe someone with a good leaf guide can get further.
