Hi. I know this is a hydrangea. I'm thinking PG. But I'm not sure what kind. It's an excellent bush at about 8 ft tall. It's just starting to bloom right now (mid August) in upstate NY. If it's the kind of PG I can select a leader from and propagate a new shrub, I want to try to grow some into trees using this as the "mother". What kind is it though? Thanks for the help.

It's a very pretty plant, isn't it? PG or pee gee is shorthand for [Hydrangea] paniculata 'Grandiflora', and I would guess this is some paniculata variety, though perhaps not exactly that one. We should be able to venture a more definite ID once those flower buds open.

And yes, you should certainly be able to root cuttings of this plant -- that works pretty well for all hydrangeas, I think.

Ok! I'll give it a week or so and take new pics. Thanks for the responses thus far.

PG Hydrangea flower cones tend to be more compact than the one you have. I would suggest that this hydrangea is a "Kyushu Hydrangea". It may also be a Tardiva hydrangea, however, Tardivas flowers are a bit fuller than Kyushu. So, I think it is probably a Kyushu.
