I just moved to North Carolina from California and my new home has a very unusual tree. My brother who is a Landscaper/Gardner hasn't a clue as to what it is... and neither do any of the Carolinians who have visited. We are all stumped. I can describe the tree minimally since we have only lived here 6 months. A picture is worth a thousand words. It's a lumpy, umbrella shape... stout...branches droop like a willow, but it grows outward (wide) rather than tall (up). It has an "ash" type leaf... small white flowers in the spring.... then full with leaves.... and right now it has begun to change autumn colors... yellows... golds... reds.... The deer love to eat the leaves off of it. I was going to dig it up because in the winter it's just spindly sticks with no leaves, but after seeing it bloom and leaf I decided to keep it because it's SO strange looking.
