In late winter and early spring before the St. Augustine starts filling out and smothering them all, I a lot of uninvited plants in my front yard. With the exception of the dandelions they're all low growing. This one is about 2-3 inches high on it's own thin stem. It's a small bloom, 1/2" (1 1/4 cm) so the fly is really tiny. It seems to like to grow in/among the dollarweed (Hydrocotyle umbellata), but in webbing around I haven't found dollarweed making such a flower.
Ah, yes. Buttercup. I had this picture of buttercups from the park mentioned previously, but didn't think to look in those files. Had I seen them in a field I would have recognized them, but they seem so different in the yard than in a field I didn't make the connection.
