I have been Googling this all summer, and no luck. No one who sees it seems to know what it is. I've checked the USDA website, but must be getting a characteristic incorrect. Also ck'd out your vine forum. No luck so far ... Can anyone help me? (Gave some to my Mom; she "shares" also ~ would hate to be passing along a weed) ... I believe these clumping vines were tiny individual bulbs one right after the other on a "string"-like connection. From a nearby town: has overwintered once in Zone 5. No flowers (yet?). Choking habit ... Thank You!

    Re: Groundnut

    That's it!

I Googled it, then called my Mother in the nothern tip of Maine with the common name "Patates en Chapelet," which she recalls as well as it having a rosary connection. Sure enough, saw another common name: "Rosary Root." Fascinating story behind how American Indians, then Colonists, used it. I would not eat it myself, but I am definitely keeping it. (Thank you!) Just have to water it more now that I know it's not terribly drought tolerant.
