Hi, This seems like some kind of a Bald Cypress. It's been planted in landscaping along a bike trail in Pittsburgh near Station Square. Anybody know what kind this is? The leafs (needles) are spread in all directions around the 'stemlet'(?), and virtually clasp it. It gives a very lacy appearance. A regular Bald Cypress is planted behind this one, and is turning brown.
It looks like Taxodium distichum var imbricarium " Nutans". It used to be Taxodium ascendens "Nutans". Last year it had it as Taxodium distichum var imbricatum " Nutans". Hmmm. Perhaps. The leaves don't seem to be quite as pressed to the branchlet on this Pittburgh specimen. But, probably close enough. Thank You.
Agree with Taxodium ascendens. There is a more-or-less complete range of intergradation between the two species (or subspecies!), but this specimen is fairly close to the ascendens end of things.
These may not grow as robustly as the typical variety but it still seems the setting is not adequately large. The one at the front is already close to the paving.
