I have searched just about everywhere and have not got an answer to what kink of tree this is (see photos). It is next to my drive in an old growth forest. Thanks for the help. Phillip Photos on flickr
sorry but I don't think so - looking at the photos of the bark of the Prunus serotina it is entirely different. Check out all my photos on one of my Flicker sites. Regular Flickr Site. Thanks - Phillip
This one is going to be tricky without flowers or fruit - the flowers won't be produced until some time next year now, but look to see if you can find any fruit in the upper part of the tree, or on the ground beneath.
>looking at the photos of the bark of the Prunus serotina it is entirely different< http://images.google.com/images?q=p...US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&sa=N&tab=wi Unless there is nothing else in the area with the same combination of characters it could be something else of course but the foliage and twigs are very similar.
Thanks Guys for the input - Ron - What has me miffed is that this bark is furrowed very deep and if you look at the ruler the individual pieces being 2" or more in length. The site I gave was my regular flickr site and not where the other photos of the tree are - here is the correct one. What Tree Is This? You can go the the individual picts by clicking on them and then look above the pict and you can click on 'all sizes' then select the 'original' to get the best image. Thanks again - and Michael - I will look for flowers or fruit but have never noticed any and have lived here since '84. I really thought that it was dead because one of the limbs (actually a third trunk) is dead. When you look at the picts on the other site there are a couple of ones of that limb - very gnarled - those picts look like I am shooting a different tree - just look close for the limb with bark missing. Since I love photography I have always liked the shape of the tree - but with all the others around I can't isolate it. Have a Great Week Guys - Phillip
