Searching several plant lists on the internet yielded no results for these. Here's hoping someone here can help me identify these.

First is an aster or relation
    Second is a hawthorn

Try some guidebooks to the wild plants of the region if you are falling short using the internet.

    Corethrogyne filaginifolia, cudweed-aster
    Ambrosia psilostachya, ragweed
    possibly Rumex crispus?, curly dock
    Mesembryanthemum crystalinum,? ice plant

Wow, thanks for the responses! Also, that could very well be Curly Dock - I saw several specimens of it around Aliso Canyon. I guess I didn't recognize it because of the more reddish coloring?

Thanks. I'm almost certain that isnt Heterotheca grandifolia though - it lacks the branching stems.
