I live in central Pennsylvania, have this beautiful tree in my backyard
which I had planted probably 20 years ago, but never have been able
to identify it. I thought it was some kind of hawthorn, not sure.
It gets its leaves in spring followed by beautiful small red flowers
with white centers, later it gets some kind of berries which the birds
love. Can someone help me. Here are a couple of links to pictures:

One of the red-flowered cultivars of Midland Hawthorn Crataegus laevigata, the most widely grown is ‘Paul's Scarlet'.

I believe it to be a Crataegus (Hawthorn) but which one?

Hawthorn expert J.B. Phipps says 'Paul's Scarlet' reverts and is not seen over here. He lists it and other reddish forms under Crataegus x media.

Single-flowered cultivar ('Paul's Scarlet' is double-flowered) asked about on this thread liable to be Crimson Cloud ('Superba') TM.

Thank You for helping me to identify this tree. Now that I know what it is,
I can find out information to help take care of it. Every spring it blooms very
profusely, and is quite beautiful. But in the middle of summer, it's leaves
turn brown and drop. I need help with this problem. Thank You.

Not sure if this is your problem but have a look at the leaves and check if there is a soft wet leech like slug on the leaves sucking every thing out of the leaves. Our normal Hawthorns have this problem and it also attacks prunus and I asume pears. I know it as a pear slug

apart from the eradication methods shown on the page vacume dust and talcum powder also work
