I've been out of town for two weeks and when I got back, this was growing in my backyard. Could anyone please let me know what it is?

Garden centers here offer these year-after-year yet I have never seen one in a garden. Pictures posted tend to come from sites in much hotter climates, like that of Dallas.

It is native to hot, humid climates in Japan, so that is not unexpected. In Japan it is very highly regarded as a beautiful flower.
