growth on post oak

    can anyone tell me what this is growing on this post oak. its leaves look like yarrow?! i have never seen it before. it is just growing on one tree in a local park out from under the bark, like mistletoe. thanks.

    My guess would be a small terrestrial/epiphytic fern. Here in Oregon, fern growth like that is common on the north side of trees where there is plenty of moisture. Without a clearer photo it is not identifiable.

    Funny...people are always finding yarrow and thinking it's a fern. You have found a fern and are comparing it to yarrow. Ironic.

    Gee, I wish I lived where it was moist enough to grow ferns on trees! (as I was already watering my beds today...not normally done until July...we're so dry)

    The ones out here belong to the genus Polypodium.

    Thanks for the great replies. It is rather weird, I live in hot, hot Arkansas where we are suffering from drought. This growth is on the western side. It is rather humid though, maybe that helps. Thanks again.

    I found out what this fern is called, it is a Resurrection Fern, Polypodium genus like Ron said. This is apparently more common in Florida and Louisiana, not so much in Arkansas where I live
