Hope I'm in the appropriate forum! I've been trying to identify a weed that is similar to Largeleaf Avens Geum macrophyllum. Willd. I should have photographed both plants in the flowering stage...oh, well. The mystery plant (pic #1) has a hollow main stem unlike the fibrous Avens stem (pic #2). Both have yellow flowers with the Avens somewhat larger and both develop burr-like seed pods. The Avens again has bigger burrs. I have taken photos of both seed pods to compare. Hope someone out there can help me.

Have you compared it to ones on the USDA site, which might be in your area, such as G. aleppicum?

It might be G. macrophyllum var. perincisum or just a variation of var. macrophyllum. Also find out if there are any Filipendula species native to your area.
