I’ve tried over 3 plant identification apps and google lens for some flower bulb (?) or maybe fungi(?) growth which I found in my backyard yesterday.
I apologize, I live in south US (Texas) as I saw this forum/site is mainly for the north/Canada. Any idea of what these might be would be greatly appreciated. I have 4 large dogs and just want to make sure they are not toxic to them before digging more of them up.
I found them by my oak tree near an slightly expose root, if that helps any?

Interesting! Can you take more of a close-up of the cut specimen?

There seems to be some differentiation into what would have been the bases of previous year's stems in some of the images. I also associate that colour of red with anthocyanins, which also makes me lean toward a plant instead of a fungus.

Do you recall anything growing in the area that looks like it might come from a bulb? Actually, it is even possible for the grass-like plant to be bulbous...

I just came from my garden, where I was pruning my raspberry bed. Your "bulbs" are somewhat similar to raspberry stem galls, caused by the stem gall midge.
Could be, that some kind of pests are causing galls on the grass rhizomes or lower part of the straw.

We had discussed galls as a possibility as well, when looking at the photos. Particularly since this is under an oak tree, which are notorious for galls.
