Ft Steele/Cranbrook area

    We found this pretty purple flower in the Fort Steele Cemetary (E Kootenays) mid-July when we were there. We are trying to I.D. it.

    I have never found anything like this but I guess that it must be some kind of mariposa lily, probably sagebrush mariposa lily (Calochortus macrocarpus).

    I'm pretty certain it is in the genus Calochortus, possibly macrocarpus, which is native to that area. Joe

    Yes, Calochortus macrocarpus. Colour is very variable from light pink to purple (see today's photo of the day) even in a population of a couple hundred plants.
