fruit to ID

    I received a "fruit/vegetable" in a group of fruits and vegetables today listed as Asian. I have no idea what it is and would appreciate any help. It is about the size and color of a plum, kind of the shape of a small, flat onion; similar in appearance to a chestnut. Can you help? Picture follows.

    They look like unpeeled water chestnuts, Eleocharis dulcis.
