This plant is about 18" high, and is growing in the middle of a large patio pot full of perennials. If it's a weed, it's the biggest and healthiest weed that I have ever seen! Leaves are slightly fuzzy to the touch. No flowers are visible yet. If anyone can identify this possible foe, I would be very grateful. Thanks!

Looks like a member of the sunflower or aster family. Do you have a bird feeder nearby?

No bird feeder. But I posted photos of the plant to one of the online resources suggested by wcutler, and it was identified as Lobelia sp. While transplanting it (it was taking over the pot it was in) I was able to confirm this when I found fragments of the original label. It's a Cardinal Flower, Lobelia cardenalis.
