I saw this flower during one of our walks in the Guildford, Surrey area. I haven't seen one of these before - and from its being in a pot, I suspect it is a species that wasn't frost hardy, but was put outside for the summer by the owner. The flower is five petalled, with points on the end of each petal. The leaves are dark green, oval and the growth habit was somewhat vining. Does anyone know what it is?

    Probably a Mandevilla.

Definitely a Mandevilla - a great plant but definitely not frost hardy. Hardy with me, but the lowest temperature we have had is +2'C (~36'F)..and just for a few hours one night!

That looks like the right ID - I've found pictures of M. sanderi that closely resemble it. That particular species likes Zone 11 - 12 (whereas we are zone 7 out here) - so no wonder I haven't seen them before.
