Mystery flower Would appreciate an ID for this flower. Thanks in advance -- you folks are great! - David
The plant is a pink (so named because most have their petal edges jagged, as though they were cut with pinking shears). Dianthus species (pinks and carnations) are very common garden plants. Yours may be common, but rather than guess, I will quote John Gerard (1545-1607) who said: "If I had the memory of Themistocles, who greeted every citizen by name; of Cyrus and of Scipio, who knew the names of all their soldiers; if I could, like Cineas, ambassador of Pyrrhus, name every senator and citizen of Rome; it would still be impossible for me, entering a garden, to know all the dianthus by name; so great is their number."
