These are a couple of plants grown in UK from seeds brought back from the Argentine pampas last November. I planted them around April this year. The original plant was already dead, but the fruit was hanging off it, a little yellow smooth golf ball. It's probably a noxious weed, but I would like to know what it is. It's not a Solanum quitoense, and it doesn't look like Jimson weed. I haven't found anything aside from S. quitoense with such prickly leaves and stems.

Any ideas as to its identity would be appreciated.

Solanum viarum, common name was the the Tropical Soda Apple. See the web page http://aquat1.ifas.ufl.edu/solvia.html for comparison. One of the epithets on the web was the 'Plant from Hell'. The plant evidently is VERY invasive, being well established in the South and Eastern parts of the US.
