So, we went to Cuba, and found this most AMAZING flower! Any idea what it is called? They are flowers from a giant tree that has acorn type seed pods too...
Looks like Calliandra haematocephala. http://starrenvironmental.com/images/species/?q=calliandra+haematocephala&o=plants https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=C...Q&biw=1280&bih=647&sei=h1KMT8jbAcrI0QWZ0ZneCQ
Pseudobombax species has subtending bud scales which Calliandra lacks. http://www.backyardnature.net/yucatan/bombax.htm http://www.math.hawaii.edu/~dale/myers/flowers/bombax_bud.html
Thank you saltcedar. After I posted I looked again at the pic and saw the bracts underneath and thought I had got it wrong, but didn't correct my error before you posted. Pseudobombax it is. https://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=....,cf.osb&fp=f791612d5ab2ce46&biw=1167&bih=562
