It was so beautiful, I went for a trip when I came back was dead. I want to plant more than one now but I need the name, I loved it. Thanks
Looks like an apple, Malus sp. Hope that the tree is in fact still alive! Fun Fact: my mom's first teaching position was at Oakland High School in the mid-1940s. Small world!
Thank you for the answer, but is not an apple, we have seven apple trees, flowers are very similar but is not the same plant. The plant is gone... I just have the picture. We live in rural area, a farm, 2 miles from Oakland city, and of course I know the Oakland High School, nice and friendly school.
All examples of stone fruits do not all automatically bear fruits every year - a given specimen has to be old enough, have gotten pollinated etc.
It was probably an orchard fruit so if you look at those (plums etc.) you may recognize it or see something else you think is attractive in flower. Maybe next year, at flowering time. Or if you don't care about the fruit choose and plant a decorative stone fruit (cherry or plum) for a similar effect.
