A co-worker from Dayville CT took these photos of a "mystery plant" on her property. It appears to be a tree seedling, sapling, or sucker. Don't know if the orchid-like curls further down are additional leaves? a flower? Thanks in advance for your assistance.
Walnut family tree. This family includes butternuts and hickories. Probably the parent tree is nearby. The curls are what the bud scales become after opening.
