Here is another Colombian plant found along the roadside. And again don't know if it's domestic or native.
Tibouchina lepidota (siete cueros) or T. urvilleana, perhaps? Certainly another member of the Melastomataceae.
Thank you Lorax I wondered if it was a Siete Cueros because the leaves were so similar to a tree we have here that has flowers of two different colors.
All species of Tibouchina have strongy dimorphic stamens, with 5 of them much larger than the other 5. Genus Meriana seems to have all 10 stamens equal.
