Coal plant

    Found this growing in coal along the railroad in Penna.
    A bush about 6 ft tall and 6 ft around.
    Have some growing from the seed I saved.

    If it was Canada I would say Nanking Cherry. If it is they make wonderful jelly.

    The fruits look very similar to our native honeysuckle, tho the leaves aren't familiar at all.

    You could try googling images of honeysuckles (lonicera), possibly the Amur honeysuckle for one (lonicera maackii).

    I agree that it looks like one of the invasive Lonicera spp. that plagues the northeast. They are beautiful, but are a real problem--overtaking natural areas and crowding out native species.

    Here is a link to invasive plant info for PA. Unfortunately, they use the same image for all the Lonicera, but it lists the problem species.

    I agree, it's one of the Lonicera.
